An executive session convened at 8:00 p.m., pursuant to A.R.S. 38-431.02, notice having been duly given.
A special meeting and a work study session of the Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board were scheduled to be held at 7:00 p.m. at the District Support Services Center, 2411, West 14th Street, Tempe, Arizona.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Barbara Hitchcock.
MOTION NO. 7742
Donald R. Campbell moved that a special meeting be convened. Motion carried 5-0.
(I-A-1) CONSIDERATION OF EMPLOYMENTS, RESIGNATIONS, RETIREMENT, AND TERMINATIONS - William Waechter recommended approval of the personnel item.
MOTION NO. 7743
Donald R. Campbell moved that the Governing Board approve the recommended employments, resignations, retirements, and terminations. Motion carried 5-0.
The special meeting adjourned at 7:02 p.m.
ANNOUNCEMENTS-President Hitchcock announced a class to be held by the Maricopa County Elections Department. The class is on campaign finance and election procedures and is being offered to assist potential candidates. The class will be held February 25, 1992, 10:00 a.m. at 301 West Jefferson Street.
Dr. Elsner reported on the Rio Salado Community College accreditation visitation currently underway.
Chancellor Elsner announced that a brief executive session would be held following the work/study session.
A District faculty member and past executive dean at Glendale Community College, Matt Hanhila, was recently killed in an accident. Memorial service will be held February 12 at 4:00 p.m. at Crossroads Methodist Church. An award was presented to Scottsdale Community College for conducting an exemplary drug awareness week and implementing an excellent substance abuse program. Ava Jensen and Pat Bradley were recognized for their contributions to the program. Pat Bradley provided a summary report of alcohol and other drug education activities at Scottsdale Community College. Dr. Ilse Burke, American Council on Education intern working at Mesa Community College, was introduced.
Dr. Elsner announced that discussions on the bond election continue to be held with members of the community. Possible dates, including June 23, are being considered. Following further dialogue with the community, a definitive recommendation may be made to the Governing Board at the February 25 meeting.
(II-A)INTEGRATED WRITING AND RESEARCH - Alfredo G. de los Santos Jr. introduced Alice Conkright, Chandler Gilbert Community College Center faculty member, who presented information on the integrated writing instruction and research in English 102. Larry Miller and Caryl Terrell-Bamiro conducted a classroom experience. The emphasis of the class is to enable students to succeed in English 102 by directly integrating writing activities, research activities, and resources in one classroom. Mrs. Hitchcock commented on the impact of the volume of material available to the student and asked about student use of sample materials. Dr. Campbell commented on the critical need for research skills, and requested a copy of the course outline. Dr. Amrein asked about on-line access for board members. Dr. Christensen and other board members commented on the excellent quality of the program. Dr. Elsner spoke about the high quality of the program and the potential future use of resources.
President Hitchcock requested a motion to adjourn to Executive Session.
