A work study session of the Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board were scheduled to be held at 7:00 p.m. at the District Support Services Center, 2411, West 14th Street, Tempe, Arizona.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by President Barbara Hitchcock.
President Hitchcock called for a motion convening an executive session, notice having been previously given.

Linda B. Rosenthal moved that an executive session be convened. Motion carried 5-0.
The meeting recessed at 6:01 p.m.
The meeting reconvened at 7:00 p.m.
President Hitchcock welcomed students from Joe Ochap's EDU 250 class and acknowledged administrative representatives: William Waechter for Paul Elsner, Margaret Hogan for Arnette Ward, and Don Shehi for Ron Bleed. Paul de Pippo was introduced as Faculty Senate President.
(I-A)COMPUTER-BASED OPEN ENTRY/OPEN EXIT ENGLISH - Doyle Burke provided background information about the open entry/open exit English Composition course, and demonstrated the technology and methods used. The program strengths, concerns, faculty and student interaction, and future plans for the program were discussed. Mrs. Rosenthal suggested that the catalog emphasize the technological assistance available for students and students be encouraged to learn something new. Dr. Christensen asked about the student attrition rate which is approximately sixty percent. Dr. Campbell suggested that Governing Board members be invited to attend class for first-hand knowledge of the methods. Dr. Amrein referred to recent literature emphasizing the need for reading skills.
Mrs. Hitchcock thanked the participants for their presentations.
