A public hearing regarding consideration of adoption of the Maricopa County Community College District budget and the GateWay Community High School budget for 2001-02, a truth in taxation hearing regarding notice of tax increase, and a special meeting of the Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board was scheduled to be held at 6:00 p.m. at the District Support Services Center, 2411 West 14th Street, Tempe, Arizona, pursuant to A.R.S. Section 38-431.02, notice having been duly given.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by President Don Campbell.

The assembly pledged their allegiance to the United States of America led by Board Member Gene Eastin.

CONSIDERATION OF ADOPTION OF BUDGETS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2001-2002 - MARICOPA COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT AND GATEWAY COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL
Dr. Rufus Glasper presented the proposed budget for Maricopa County Community College District for Fiscal Year 2001-2002. Debbie Thompson reviewed the proposed information in a slide presentation.
Dr. Campbell requested those to come forward who wished to ask questions or raise concerns on the Maricopa Community College District Proposed Budget or the Proposed GateWay Community High School Budget. None came forward.

TRUTH IN TAXATION - NOTICE TO INCREASE TAX
Dr. Campbell presented the notice of tax increase. Dr. Glasper provided information on the proposed 3.02% increase which equals $6,008,426 in additional property tax revenues.
SPECIAL MEETING

LEVY TO INCREASE TAXES - ROLL CALL VOTE - Approve through a roll call vote (as required by Arizona State Statute), Maricopa Community College District's increase in primary property taxes on existing property for Fiscal Year 2001-2002. In accordance with relevant statutory and constitutional provisions, the Maricopa Community College District is proposed to increase primary property taxes on existing property. The proposed increase is 3.02%, which equals $6,008,426 in additional property tax revenues.

MOTION NO. 9037
Gene Eastin moved that the Governing Board approve through a roll call vote the Maricopa Community College District's increase in primary property taxes for Fiscal Year 2001-2002. Dr. Don Campbell called for the roll call vote: Linda Rosenthal - aye; Ed Contreras - aye; Gene Eastin - aye; Don Campbell - aye; Nancy Stein - absent. Motion carried 4-0.

TRANSFER OF CIGNA MEDICAL PREMIUM RESERVE FROM QUASI-ENDOWMENT FUND - Approve the transfer of up to $680,000 from the Cigna reserve account in the Quasi-Endowment fund to partially cover increased medical premium costs in Fiscal Year 2001-2002.

Linda Rosenthal moved that the Governing Board approve the transfer of up to $680,000 from the Cigna reserve account in the Quasi-Endowment fund to partially cover increased medical premium costs in Fiscal Year 2001-2002. Motion carried 4-0.

PROPOSED FISCAL YEAR 2001-2002 MARICOPA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT BUDGET ADOPTION - Adopt the proposed Fiscal Year 2001-2002 Budget, totaling $672.6 million and authorize the expenditure of budgeted revenues, realized or designated fund balances, within the total amount budgeted for each fund (Current Unrestricted, Auxiliary, Restricted, and Plant Funds).

Linda Rosenthal moved that the Governing Board adopt the proposed Fiscal Year 2001-2001 Budget, totaling $672.6 million and authorize the expenditure of budgeted revenues, realized or designated fund balances, within the total amount budgeted for each fund (Current Unrestricted, Auxiliary, Restricted, and Plant Funds). Motion carried 4-0.

PROPOSED FISCAL YEAR 2001-2002 GATEWAY COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL BUDGET - Approve the proposed 2001-2002 budget totaling $1,478,485. An overview of the proposed budget was presented by Fred Gaudet.

Linda Rosenthal moved that the Governing Board approve the proposed 2001-2002 GateWay Community High School budget totaling $1,478,485. Motion carried 4-0.
NEXT BOARD MEETING
The next Governing Board meeting will be a Regular Board Meeting to be held July 24, 2001 at the District Support Services Center.
