Matt Reeves, Interim District Chief Information Officer

Matthew Reeves is the interim Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Maricopa Community College District, a system comprising ten colleges and 40 locations that serve more than 150,000 students each year. Collectively, the system adds nearly $7.2 billion annually to the region’s economy.

As the Chief Information Officer, Matt is responsible for the mission, vision, values, strategy, and operational capabilities of Maricopa’s central Information Technology Services (ITS). Leading an experienced and thought-leading executive leadership team and an innovative organization of information technology professionals, Matt is committed to an ambitious IT vision and focused on execution to serve students better and transform the delivery of enterprise services across the district.

Before serving as interim CIO for the Maricopa Community Colleges, he was the Associate Vice Chancellor for ITS Infrastructure and Customer Care. He was responsible for the strategic and operational direction of Maricopa's enterprise information technology infrastructure and customer care services. In that role, Matt provided leadership, coordination, and strategic direction for all aspects of Maricopa's technology infrastructure and customer care services. Under Matt’s leadership, notable achievements include delivering next-generation networks and firewall capabilities District-wide; modernizing the District’s identity, single sign-on and data protection enterprise-wide; deployment of education roaming (eduroam) services supporting bridging the digital divide initiatives; and the rollout of advanced remote work and learn anywhere unified communications technologies for district-wide instruction and operations at the start of the global pandemic.

Before working for Maricopa Community Colleges, Matt was an IT Director of Strategy, Consulting, and Solution Delivery Director at American Express. During his tenure at American Express, Matt built and led global IT strategy development, the consulting practice for all internal business units, production delivery, security and governance, support, and development for a large, international multi-data center SharePoint hybrid cloud (Office 365/on-premises) environment for 90,000 users and all business units.

Matt has a distinguished career and extensive experience spanning 24+ years in developing, deploying, and managing information technology, digital workplace, cloud, and collaboration solutions globally for Fortune 100 businesses (financial services and manufacturing). With a range of IT strategy and consulting, digital transformation, and enterprise initiative delivery talents, Matt’s strength lies in working with businesses to drive critical, transformational business projects from concept through delivery—combining strategic planning with a proven ability to execute and win.

Matt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics (major) and Computer Science (minor) from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
